305 8th Street House - 305 8th Street NW - Huntsville, AL 35805
About Us

305 8th Street was built in 1949 by S. O. McDonald.  In 1962, the home was occupied by the Booker family and rooms were leased to NASA contractors.  A 6,000 sq. ft. home with 11 bedrooms and 4 living rooms seemed ideal to Irene Smith who purchased the home in 1979 for the purpose of running a group home for mentally ill.

Following an unexpected death of Irene Smith, her sister Inez and husband Gordon Bastin came to run the home.  In 1982, being 305 8th Street was one of the only group homes in the area, 2 intellectual disabled adults who had been in foster care most of their lives needed a home.  The Bastin’s accepted the 2 young adults and lost state funding for being a home that served diverse mental challenges.

In 1992, 305 8th Street became a non-profit 501 (c ) (3) organization and Inez named it Jehovah Jireh, Inc. “The Lord Provides.”  Today the home continues to operate on faith and use the name 305 8th Street for its 16 residents who call it home.  The home is governed by a Board of Directors.

"I thank God that Jeffrey has a home that he can live in now and also when his father and I are gone. This was the answer to many prayers for Jeffrey. Thank you for your part in making this wonderful home possible. God bless you."
